Vacations with a dog on Lake Garda – What do I need to bear in mind?

When you are out and about with your dog in public places, you must always keep him on a leash. The length of the leash must not exceed 1.5 meters. Microchip and vaccination:

The last vaccination should have taken place at least 21 days before departure. Italy reserves the right to prohibit the entry of young animals up to 12 weeks until further notice.

Pet passport:
The EU requires a so-called pet passport for traveling with dogs (and other small animals), which you can apply for at the vet. This contains information about your four-legged friend’s appearance, vaccination status, a unique identification number and information about you as the owner.

Dog playgrounds on Lake Garda

Camping San Francesco: This campsite offers spacious dog parks with access to drinking water and a shower. You will also find dispensers with dog waste bags on the streets. There is also an agility area for dogs. There is also a beach where your dog can swim and run. A veterinarian is only 2 km away from the campsite.

If you’d rather visit a public dog playground, there are a few options here as well (see map). Note, however, that many public dog play areas in Italy are not fenced. So always keep your dog on a leash to make sure he doesn’t escape or disturb other dogs.

Dog playground (Dog Park) in Tremosine

A brand new dog playground is located in Tremosine, in the Valle di Bondo near Vesio. This Doc Park was recently completed and is completely fenced. There is some great playground equipment on the grounds for your four-legged friends. One advantage of this dog playground is its location: in summer, when there is a lot going on directly at the lake, it is a bit quieter in Tremosine.

Valle di Bondo is also about 600 meters above the lake, so it doesn’t get too hot there even in summer. In addition to the dog playground, the Valle di Bondo offers numerous hiking opportunities and the little river Bondo offers additional cooling opportunities for dog and mistress or master.

Lake Garda Vacation with Dog – Dog Beaches

You can visit beaches on Lake Garda and Lake Ledro that are specially accessible for dogs. A dog beach on Lake Garda is often delimited by fences and specially equipped for the needs of your four-legged friend. Here your dog can also swim in the lake, which is prohibited in other places. Not only are there water stations and trash receptacles at dog beaches, but sometimes there are even lounge chairs – for you and your dog.

One example is the dog beach Bracco Baldo Beach in Peschiera del Garda. This section of the beach has been open for dog owners and their four-legged friends since spring 2011. Over the summer months (from May) the Garda dog beach can be visited daily from 9:30 to 19:00.

The well-signposted beach covers about 1000 square meters and offers enough space for you and your dog. There are also plenty of shaded areas where you, your dog and other visitors can relax. In addition, the shore with its beautiful vegetation invites you to take walks directly on the lake, up to three kilometers long. You must keep your dog on a lead while on the beach, but he can swim in the sea without a lead.
The beach is equipped with sun loungers, parasols, toilets and showers. There are also areas for your dog’s needs, including water bowls and feeding stations.

Dog beaches on the eastern shore of Lake Garda

Other dog beaches on Lake Garda are located on the eastern shore of the Lagos. Worth mentioning here, for example, is the Fido Beach in Manerba del Garda:

You can find him at Via Repubblica 108, 25080 Manerba del Garda. This beach has 36 sunbeds with umbrellas, 10 water sunbeds and furthermore there are 20 sunbeds for dogs. Best of all, the dog beach is open every day from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm all summer long. But beware: here, too, you have to pay:

Also in Toscolano Maderno you can go swimming with your four-legged friend at a dog beach. Just like in Peschiera del Garda, such a beach was opened to the public in 2011. The 700 meters long fenced dog beach is located on Rivagranda beach and is located below the Parocchia Dei Santi Pietro e Paolo, if you drive from Toscolano Maderno in the direction of Gargnano.

This beach is open 24 hours a day all year round and is free of charge for you and your dog.

Lake Ledro dog beach

For some years now there has also been an attractive and pet-friendly bathing beach at Lake Ledro for vacationers with four-legged friends. The beach has a green lawn and shady plants for a relaxing siesta. Dogs can jump straight into the water and swim freely in Lake Ledro.
The dog beach is located in Pur on the south side of the lake and is easily accessible via a footpath and cycle path.
